At the beginning of each lesson, the student learns the name and roman numeral for a new number, a famous phrase in Latin, a conversational phrase or two, and a list of six to ten vocabulary words. Space is provided for writing derivatives in the book. The teacher's edition offers many suggestions of derivatives for each lesson.

Each lesson includes a new grammatical form and explanation plus a summary of a history lesson from Famous Men of Rome. The grammatical explanation often has some blank spaces in order to make the lesson more interactive. Each student book comes with a key that provides the missing words, and of course the teacher's edition has these blanks filled in.
